MAXWELL FOR MUNCHKINS!

Stories serve to teach important life lessons, and John Maxwell is a masterful teller of meaningful stories. In his inaugural childrens book, he brings to life the core principle of both his adult book, "Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn" and his young adult version, "Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn For Teens", namely that a lesson learned is not a loss.
In this beautifully illustrated book, the two youngsters struggle with dampened enthusiasm after a disappointing loss. After getting wise counsel from their grandfather, they enter the next game with renewed spirits only to lose again. Another dose of grandpa finally gets them in the right frame of mind. Will they finally win?
Dealing with failure and disappointment is one of the most important life lessons children have to learn. It is the foundation of resilience, something that is often a struggle for adults.
The last page offers suggested quuestions for the adult reading to the child, that will enrich the experience. Using various questions means each read will produce different results. A favorite story can be turned into a powerful learning tool.
It is never too soon to learn the deep lessons of life, they merely need to be put into a simple context. I can't wait to see what other principles Dr Maxwell tackles in the future.

Winning takes a Positive Attitude and Practice!

Wendy and Wade are excited to play Woggleball but like most children (and adults) they want to win. Before their first game they visit their grandpa and he gives them some advice on winning the Woggleball game, "Think positive thoughts-that's how winners start." Things don't go as expected while playing their first game so Wendy and Wade lose hope (happens to children all the time) before the game is even finished. After the game, their grandpa gives them some more wise advice. He explains that winning takes effort and you can learn from your loss. Grandpa encourages them to stay positive and practice. Wendy and Wades attitudes change as they improve their Woggleball game by practicing. In the end, their hard work pays off and they win the game.
There are so many life lessons you can discuss with children after this story. Any parent that has a child that plays sport will relate to the story. I enjoyed reading Sometimes You Win Sometimes You Learn. Highly recommended!

Bought this book for my four year old daughter and we both love it. It teaches the core value of winning, the right attitude of seeing failure as a learning experience and the out come of hard work. I love the poetic words and the story line it uses to illustrate the values. It has been a great reference to teach my girl to keep practicing her numbers, alphabets.anything she is learning really. I highly recommend it to all parents.
