Wright On!

Yet another chance that I took on an unfamiliar author (with a book cover that didn't appeal to me....at first glance I thought this was a Christian romance based on the cover....it is not as there are definitely steamy scenes), but I was not disappointed! Nate is my favorite type of hero: respectful, loving, persistent, decisive, no cheating (basically the kind of man I would hope my boys grow up to act like). The romance was sweet, but not saccharine. The characterization and humorous dialogue were spot on. The angst was low key and more internal for the heroine , and this was one area that I thought could have been amped up with adding more drama surrounding the ex-boyfriend interactions.

I recommend purchasing this book WRIGHT now! Meeting Mr. Wright will be going into my "saved" collection for sure.

"I don't trust myself to know who it's safe to give my heart to."

This was an extremely sweet read, it hit all the right buttons for a good romance. The central characters Callie and Nate were both very charming and had a great connection but it was nice to see (from Callie's internal perspective) that she's not a perfect person and this isn't a romance between two perfect people - they have issues to work through, despite their chemistry, but these don't overwhelm the story.

As far as the actual writing goes, the author is a good storyteller and the story was well constructed and didn't lag. The dialogue was snappy and on a few occasions extremely touching, without veering into anything remotely trite (often an unfortunate occurrence in modern romance novels).

I give Meeting Mr. Wright 4.5 stars and highly recommend it.

Book Review: From Author Unpublished

A good, solid, 100% heart-warming romance book is near and dear to my heart. It was one of the first genre’s my mother shared with me at the tender age of 13 that I quickly fell in love with, and this book was no exception. Meeting Mr. Wright by Cassie Cross is the kind of romance story romantic comedies are made of. It is endearing, sexy, and hilarious—filled with snarky characters, embarrassing, blush-inspiring moments, and touching moments between two people who are madly in love… and aren’t willing to admit it.

Technically speaking, the narrative was fairly well written. There were a few tidbits here and there where a word was missing, poor word choice cropped up, or a detail was left out, but these were few and far between. The story moved along at a decent pace, and never seemed to drag. I was a little thrown by the tense (I’m not a fan of present tense), but that lasted all of a split second. I’ll admit, the first sex scene seemed to move by a little quick, and had a line that stuck out as poorly phrased, but the following sex scenes (of which there were several) passed without incident. Eventually, I was so engrossed in the romance between Callie and Nate that none of that seemed to matter. Overall, the writing was above the standard, and I enjoyed it immensely.

The dynamic between Callie and Nate was giggle-worthy on more than one occasion, and I found myself grinning as I read through the pages. The only true complaint I had, was that Nate was perhaps a little too perfect. It seemed that from the very beginning, Nate fell madly in love with Callie, and despite her very clear decision that she wasn’t looking to date anyone, his heart never wavered. He didn’t fight with her, he didn’t get frustrated with her… he only ever seemed to welcome her into his life with open arms. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with a romantic interest who’s sweet, caring, and thoughtful…(yes please!) but it felt a little dubious that while Callie was wavering all over the place and running into a whole mess of troubles, Nate never blinked once. I really wish there’d been some flaws in the man.

That aside, overall, I genuinely loved this story. It made my heart warm and fuzzy, and if you enjoy heart-warming stories, you’re going to love it too. I would be happy to recommend it to anyone who enjoys the Romance genre.

Horrible

Awful (an alpha version at most):
- Go code that is not formatted with gofmt. Honestly?
- Sample code not working since for example github.com/nkozyra/api is empty? Why provide code for download that's not working at all? Where are the SQL statements? Expected to type them?
- Concatenating together SQL-Queries. Great idea to teach with code vulnerable to SQL injections in 2015. Wow. And that's not an accident, it's like 1/2 of all queries through the book.
- The Tip boxes are at strange places. After go get is used several times before in the book in chapter 3 comes the tip to set the GOPATH if you get an error using go get. As a reader you either know that anyway or you figured it out before this tip or you gave up. In general this show the bad structure of the book in general.
- SHA-2 for storing password as shown is the book is also a bad practice today. Use BCrypt - even more since the is a go implementation in the crypto subrepo.
- Next major mistake: Don't use math/rand to create the salt. There is crypto/rand for that!
- After using Parameters for SQL Query in the middle somewhere: Hurra, SQL Injections are back in chapter 6.
- Wrong: gomemcache is not a memcached implementation, just a client library for accessing memcached with go.

And so on and on...

Sorry, if that i got a little sarastic, but the book is really horrible. Don't buy it, it will teach you too many bad practices. This is not a book ready for publishing, it's close to a scam.

Good reference book to get you started

I purchased this book because I was about to start working on a REST API in Go.

I would not use this book to copy/paste the actual code provided (in fact so far I probably ignored 75% of the source code) but I do find it useful as a backup reference for defining and developing REST services. You could find most of the same info scattered all over the internet but having some of the best practises collected in one book saves you some time.

The book touches lots of subjects but doesn't go into too much details (because then the book would be at least twice as big) It does serve as a good starting point to search for more detailed information online about subjects you might have forgotten about otherwise.

The books starts of gently with a brief introduction to some of the REST principles and adds more complexity throughout the next chapters. The provided examples use popular libraries and technologies, e.g. in the routing chapter they provide examples with the Gorilla library.

Authentication is handled with a chapter about OAuth but not a single word about JSON Web Tokens which are becoming more popular with REST APIs. Instead the author suggests using sessions for authentication (but not state) which are ok but besides not being that restful might give you some headaches with mobile apps.

The books ends appropriately with more advanced subjects like tuning your performance: rate limiting, caching etc...

In summary: will this book be useful?
Probably yes, if you use it the same way I'm using it: as a reference and starting point to research subjects in more detail elsewhere.

Missing: JSON web tokens, something about describing/modeling and documenting your API (RAML, Swagger,...)

This book slays

I read every book I can on Go (love to learn, love to code, love that classic tool we know as the computer), and this one is the best. It shreds. There are a lot of people giving this book poor reviews. Literally all of them are in bed with Big Coding and probably global warming deniers.

I recommend this book to all school children who want to learn to be good.

Great book

I am currently a CRNA student. I bought this book to use on my cardiac rotation. It was very helpful to help me prepare for my cases. I don't have much of a cardiac background and this book was easy to red but also provided detail that I needed for my cases. I really liked the amount of pictures. I am more of a visual learner and it helped to be able to visualize what the author was talking about. Overall I think this book is a great resource.

Comprehensive yet easy-to-read bible type book for the anesthesiology resident

I'm a PGY3 anesthesiology resident that used this book for my CT/CV months. Its a great book, makes learning CT more comprehensive if you read this at home concurrently throughout the month. Its in an outline format, sort of like how Goljian pathology was written in medical school which i really liked. I cannot think of any topic that was lacking in this book, or improvements that could be added to it. Like all books, there are some areas where there is room to disagree with fine details like drug dosages etc. Not sure if its a regional difference, but in Texas I've never seen nitroprusside used once, and this book relies on this drug as a first line medication in many circumstances. With any type of learning, you should probably read from multiple sources and never treat any book as a bible. I think I'm going to read kaplan essentials next.

No Faking, This is Why I Read.

Fake Fiancée is a new adult novel that combines the true heart of romance storytelling along with the sexy swagger of young love. It is yummy and delicious with the right amount of build up that draws you in so deeply you care about both hero and heroine achieving their goals. This was my first Madden-Mills book, but it won't be my last. I loved Fake Fiancée from start to finish so I'll be adding Ilsa Madden-Mills to my "need to read more of this author" list.

Max Kent is the star quarterback heading into his senior year of college. There is buzz talk of him receiving the Heisman trophy which would definitely mean the NFL in his future. If Max played his cards right and didn't screw up he'd have a real shot towards everything he's worked for. And when Max wanted something there wasn't much he wouldn't do to reach his goal. His last long term girlfriend almost screwed up his winning season last year, so when Sunny shows up on his doorstep the first day of class he sees a great opportunity and runs with it.

Sunny Blaine was a long way from where she'd run from several years ago. With little to her name she was attending college, taking care of her grandmother, working to pay for school and frankly she didn't have time for stupid, inconsiderate jocks. Miffed when a football groupie totaled her car, she had no qualms about letting the football jock who was basically an accessory to the crime (at least in Sunny's book) hear about it. What she wasn't prepared for was the instant connection that came after and the ridiculous proposal that shortly ensued.

Max and Sunny find a kindred spirit in each other, which quickly blossoms into friendship. When their friendship begins to burn into something more than they can handle will the inferno burn them and kill what they've built while they sit hopelessly on the sidelines watching it blaze out of control? Are they strong enough to make it through anything together?

Sometimes true love finds you no matter what."

Max and Sunny were such a delight to read. I really didn't want the story to end. For me, if I had a perfect description for what New Adult romance is, Fake Fiancée would be it. It captures the essence of youth, the budding relationship and choices young lovers make creating the pitfalls that happen when we doubt ourselves.

I can tell you, pick up this enjoyable read now, you won't regret it.

Hook, Line and Sinker

Max Kent is a hero. Max Kent is a savior. Max Kent is a bit of a douchebag. But even when he's at his worst he's kind of sweet as well making it impossible not to like him.

Sunny Blaine is my kind of girl - she's strong and independent and definitely not afraid to stand up to the Viking Quarterback.

Ilsa Madden-Mills hooked me with her English series and with this new release from her it's line and sinker - her writing is eminent and her characters leave me with a smile on my face...and who can ask for more than that.

Max and Sunny are touchdown perfect!

It came as no surprise since I'm a huge fan of Ilsa Madden-Mills and of course football, that I immediately fell in love with this book. But how she got me there was a little different than she's done it in the past.
First, I have to say I like to mix up my reading. I enjoy all genres and tend to veer more on the dark and suspense/psychological side. But when my brain and heart need a break I go for something a little less crazy; I go for the "palate cleanser". These are usually something I've already read and I know the writing is on point, the characters are fun and the storyline is more on the side of happy/sexy/entertaining. And Fake Fiancee was just that to a T.
It is light, very well written and brings a fun and sexiness to the story that is a perfect mix.
Max and Sunny's story began a few years prior, but it was but a blip on their radar. Not something that is focused on much of the story and Max honestly doesn't even remember. He just "knows" her and his heart has jumped. The story focuses on Max trying to go out with a bang his last year in college football. Football is his number one priority and he doesn't want the drama of a girlfriend or the groupies to hinder what he has his sights set on. The Heisman. Enter the cute, simple and natural neighbor, Sunny and we have a perfect match for a pretend girlfriend that understands what he is looking for and won't get in his way.

The plot is light on angst and drama, but is sweet and has parts of laugh out funny. At first I took Sunny as more of girl that could be walked over, but she is anything but. She is stronger than she appears and she has been through stuff in her past. Plus, she knows how to hold her own against exes and comes out the winner. But sometimes being strong on your own is not the way to go, and if that someone walks into your life offering some sort of answer to a few things you need, you take it.
"He's the calm in your chaos."
And Max aka Quarterback is funny, sweet and I feel doesn't even really know what he needs until it literally knocks on his door. And if you know athletes, you know that they never give up. They like to work for things and they don't give up until they win. THAT is this story and that is the journey we go on with Max and Sunny. Fun, light, entertaining and definitely a little glimpse into fate. Sometimes it happens when you least expect it. And watch out because there always seems to be fireworks.

If you need a palate cleanser and are looking for fun characters with some awesome side kicks that I could continue to read about and a plot that is light on angst and drama, you've hit the jackpot. This was just what I needed at the perfect time. 4.5 Quarterback Stars!
