I like the pronunciation guide with its many examples which help to avoid potential confusion. A quick rundown on nouns, pronouns, and verbs is
provided. Additionally, a miniature English-Hebrew/ Hebrew-English dictionary is provided. Past experience has taught me that you can study all
the language books you can afford. but after learning a few words,nouns,pronouns, and verbs, the best way to learn a language is to engage in
conversation. When I was learning Italian years ago in Asmara,Eritrea, I would try to talk with the Italian youths. One Italian proverb I learned was,
" sbagliando, si impara" which means " one learns by making mistakes". It is like learning to walk. At first you take one step and you fall, soon you
are able to take several steps without falling. Learning to converse in a foreign language is very similar to learning how to walk. After serious
practice one becomes more comfortable. Mazal tov!

Excellent Book

As a former student I can say this is another great book from Ruti Yudovich. If you are looking for an easy to understand book for learning Hebrew on your own, this is the one.

Speak Hebrew for Real will be useful for both the beginning
student and the student with some prior knowledge of Hebrew to learn to speak Hebrew
as well as build reading and writing skills. Though I have had prior Hebrew classes, I learned
new vocabulary from this book.

I found, In this compact format, each lesson built on previously a introduced concept and assisted
in expanding knowledge of the language.

The engaging graphics helped in retaining what is learned and the exercises at the end of each
lesson also assist in learning new information.

Like the companion book, Learn How to Read Hebrew for Real, Speak Hebrew For Real will be a great
way to begin the journey to being proficient in Hebrew language.

Ruti does a great job starting out very basic. This book has wonderful sentence building skills, by the end of the book you feel very accomplished. I learned many things in how to speak Hebrew from this book along with great everyday vocabulary. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning how to read or speak Hebrew!

About the Author
James career began at a young age as chef at The Schoolhouse in the Southern Highlands where he had grown up. As head chef at the restaurant, he received the accolade of being one of the youngest chefs ever awarded a Sydney Morning Herald Chef's Hat, at the age of 23. James then worked overseas for a number of years to gain experience in the kitchens of some of the world's best chefs. Biota Dining has become one of the most awarded regional restaurants in NSW. The restaurant went on to win a second hat in its second year in 2012 as well as the Sustainability Award. Its grounds include a substantial kitchen garden, an onsite glasshouse growing local and imported seedlings and a popular monthly farmer's market. James recently opened 12 rooms on Biota's beautiful grounds. All 13 comfortable Scandinavian-style rooms have queen or king beds, modern bathrooms and facilities, and outlooks onto the Biota Dining grounds and gardens.

About the Author
Wendell French, PhD Harvard University, is a retired professor of management and organization from the University of Washington. His fields of specialty are organizational development and human resource management, including team building, inter-group team building, and human resource policies. He is the author of several books and has contributed to numerous business and professional journals.

Conceptual!

I have read and continue to re-read this book. The authors are two of very few individuals who have OD in black and white. From a sociotechnical systems theory to accurate team building, a must for all OD specialists.

It's a Classic

I'm a little disappointed at those who were horrified at its age--the French and Bell book is a classic and it was updated in 1999. Anyone who is interested in learning OD should read the book and you will get a great foundation. Go from there to learn more about individual OD interventions or theories. Yes, Kotter's book is great, too, but Kotter speaks about leading change (only one topic in OD) or about leadership (another goodie but only one topic). If you don't know anything about OD, read this book. Because it was originally written in the 70s doesn't invalidate it; in fact, it shows how good it is.

This book "fills in the blanks" of OD

The book provides an introduction to the discipline, describing the historical foundations as well as specific applications in both for-profit and non-profit settings. The definition provided is deceptively simple; it is brief, yet completely encompasses the critical elements of OD efforts. What brings me back to it as a text again and again, however, is it's comprehensive list and descriptions of OD techniques. I have yet to find another book that so simply lays out the fundamentals of activities for interpersonal, team, inter-team, and large-scale organizational change. The final chapters deal with issues of consulting and the future of OD.
Because it ranges from a large-scale conceptual overview down to the nitty-gritty specifics of OD activites, it serves as an ideal framework to springboard to other books and readings.
Only caveat: The writing style is not commensurate with the excellence of the content.

About the Author
Frederic S. Mishkin is the Alfred Lerner Professor of Banking and Financial Institutions at the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University. Since receiving his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1976, he has taught at the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Princeton University, and Columbia.

In addition to teaching, Mishkin is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a senior fellow at the FDIC Center for Banking Research, and president of the Eastern Economic Association. He is also the author of more than one hundred published articles and over ten textbooks. He is currently an academic consultant to and serves on the Economic Advisory Panel of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.


Stanley G. Eakins is the Associate Dean for the College of Business at East Carolina University. He received his PhD from Arizona State University and has served as vice president and comptroller for the First National Bank of Fairbanks.

A founder of the Denali Title and Escrow Agency and a contributor to journals such as the Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics and Journal of Financial Research, Professor Eakins is also the author of Finance: Institutions, Investments, and Management, Second Edition.

Decent book, light on substance

Mishkin delivers a serviceable, but not great book. In his rush to leave his post at the Fed, you would think he would create a more engaging book, or at least include more flesh on the financial crisis. His analysis is fairly shallow and his structure seems more geared towards a freshman/high school level class than a full fledge book for college students. Several errors in the book, including on page 428 where he definitely uses incorrect numbers from the FDIC.

That being said, as some of the material was new to me, this book provides a great, accessible overview of many concepts and structures in the financial world. The readings are a breeze, and most of the examples used are easy to grasp and understand. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting an introduction to financial markets, but as a Economics and Business double major, I find it difficult to rate higher than 3 stars.

Missing Private Equity

This is a book about "Financial Institutions" and it does not discuss Private Equity firms! (as separated from Venture Capital firms). And it only discusses Venture Capital firms for a few pages. And as far as I can see, not a word about investment strategies: Levaraged Bouyots, Growth vs. Venture Capital, Mezzanine Capital, Distressed Investment.
In a book about financial institutions and their role on the financial markets, you would expect that a full chapter should be given to Investment Banking, a full chapter to Private Equity, a full chapter to Venture Capital firms, a full chapter to Angel Investing. Not in this book. Other than that, the book is written well.
Now I have to buy a book about more financial institutions.
