Much better value than purchasing the individual complements separately. Book was slightly damaged but not to the point where I wanted to bother sending it back since I am most likely going to destroy it this semester from frequent use.

Career changing book.

I now have a career goal. I am going to be a crap taxidermist. I am going to start small (guppies) and work up to the big fish in the sea. Hopefully my apartment has room for that beluga when I get finished making it a ballerina that it deserves!

This book is good for laughs, cries, and all in between. Keep it up!

Knowing that these animals are in a better place makes this book that much better!

The Phar Lap of (Crap) Taxidermy Books

My first instinct was "What, the fox!!? They haven't ... But they had.... And this book is a testament (old, new, or overly plush and covered in leopard skin) to the art of taxidermy. In reviewing its enhanced colors, pithy text, and empathy for the subjects -stuck in the headlights of the approaching vehicle (and now the Internet) as they were - I was reminded of the deeds and words of the world's greatest horse; Phar Lap, the horse with the largest recorded (and separately embalmed) heart ... possibly poisoned to get access to his rich, red hide ... and in his last moments he was heard to utter (in Horsi, in Aussie accent) ... "Well I'll be stuffed ..." And so this text, like Phar Lap, will live forever in our hearts.

Bloody awful. Poor grammar, false bravado, BAD advice for anyone who wants a relationship.

There is a difference between being a Domme and being an abuser. Treating someone with zero respect and declaring that "in the end, it's only fair" is all about abuse. If you hate a man this much, just break it off and move on.

Great guide for the couple that is curious - with a deeper dive into some of the more advanced goals for a Hotwife and her cuck.

This is a great book to introduce a curious couple interested in a Hotwife/cuckold lifestyle. It's direct and give some great examples to try out. The explanation of how a cuck progresses and ultimately accepts his true calling is very spot on. Inevitably this is where a cuckold will end up...it will depend on how far the Mistress desires control. Wait until the next re-print!

I previously used the 3rd Edition of Andy Crowe's PMP and CAPM study guides, and loved them! I'm currently a CAPM studying for my PMP, and pre-ordered this book since I liked the way the information was presented to me in the prior editions.

The problem I'm having so far (I'm currently on Chapter 7, Cost Management), is that it feels like a quickly put together cut & paste job from the previous editions. The 5th edition of the PMBOK renamed, removed and added some process. I've found a couple of places with references to a process that no longer exists in the 5th edition. These are just some examples I was able to go back and find again:
- Page 228: The chart with the 13 key earned value management formulas has incorrect formulas. Specifically, the value for Cost Variance is listed as CV=EV/AC. The right formula is CV=EV-AC as listed on page 230 and the 3rd Edition of the Andy Crowe PMP book. Schedule Variance, Estimate to Completion and Variance at Completion formulas are also wrong.
- Page 111: The last sentence of the output for Work Performance Information ends with "...are used in the communications process, Report Performance." In the 5th Edition, this process no longer exist. I am not sure what it was called in the 4th Edition, but in the 3rd Edition it was called Performance Reporting, and it was a Monitoring and Controlling process of Communication Management.
- Page 106: There are several references to the process "Perform Quality Control" which in the 5th Edition has been renamed to "Control Quality." That's not such a huge difference, but i'm already trying to memorize 47 processes, and don't want to get stuck asking, what's the correct name of that process?
- Page 89: The 3rd to last paragraph on this page (under Requirements Management Plan) ends in "...and not the requirements themselves.ww" with two W's at the end of the sentence.
- Page 84: The answer to question 24 is not listed at the beginning in bold like the rest of the answers. You have to read the explanation to get it.
- Page 45-46: The last 3 paragraphs are the same paragraphs from page 44. (again, minor, but sloppy)
- Page 24: "RIsk" is misspelled in the graph. (minor issue, that shouldn't impact your studies, but sloppy.)

What I LOVED about Andy Crowe's book was that it had key information that was not on the PMBOK, but was on the exam. Now, I don't know if the reason I'm not seeing that info is because the PMBOK doesn't have it, or because it's a copy and paste from the older edition that no longer applies to the new edition. For instance, there was a question about Heuristics at the end of the Time Management chapter. The only reference I found to this was a mention in the Summary of Key Terms on page 181. I'm just not confident with the book and find myself doubting it at times.

Used Andy Crowe and passed on the first try

Here's what I did:
- Studied carefully the Andy Crowe glossary. It is more comprehensive than the PMBOK.
- Read very slowly and carefully the entire PMBOK.
- Read slowly and carefully the entire Andy Crowe. (I purchased the book in March 2014 and it was the 4th printing of the 5th edition. Probably a total of two or three editorial errors vs early printings noted by early fifth edition reviewers.) I memorized the Knowledge Area vs Process Group Matrix, aka the 47 processes (p 46 of Crowe) and the formulas on p 226 of Crowe.
- I did every practice exercise in Crowe. I also did most of the practice exercises in "PMP Exam Prep by Christopher Scordo". In all, I did a little over 1100 practice questions (Crowe and Scordo).
- The evening before the exam is re-studied, very carefully, the entire Andy Crowe glossary.
I did my preparation over a period of about three weeks.

What I liked about Crowe was his explanations that are simply not in the PMBOK. The rational and explanations of the linkages are a key to understanding. Rote memorization (expect for page 46 and page 226) are not enough to pass as there are too many subjective decisional questions on the exam (e.g., "what is the best option for the project manager to . . ." or "which is the next step the project manager shoudl take?" ) Additionally, Crowe's practiced exams have a better explanation than Scordo. Scordo simply has a lot more practice questions.

Crowe's tips about the exam and how to take the exam were every much spot on. He only missed one point: Because the computers in the computer based testing room generate a lot of heat, the room is kept very cool. Sitting in that cooled room for about 4 hours and 20 minutes (total time of the test introduction and the test) became a test of human endurance. I was so cold I was shivering. Glad I wore a thick, long sleeved shirt.

Over a half million PMPs can attest that the PMP exam is not impossible to pass. You must have both the knowledge and understanding to pass this test. You can't succeed solely on testing skills. You can fail, however, if you are not testing savvy. Crowe provided a source to gain that knowledge, understanding, and testing skills.

Helpful but I won't Recommend

First of all, I used this book instead of the PMBOK 5th ed. to prepare for the exam and I passed it on August 6th. But that doesn't mean I like this book. Overall, the book helped me to pass the exam but I would not recommend it to you.

Although the book does cover the 5th ed. and was helpful to prepare for the exam, there are several things I don't like about it.
1) Many concepts and key terminologies are missing in this book. This becomes apparent when I took the exam and noticed that I've never seen quite a few of the terms that are questioned. So for those of you who are thinking to buy a prep book to replace the PMBOK, this book is not right for you.
2) The book is apparently not well edited before publishing. For example, in the answer section for practice questions under chapter 10, the keys for the last 15 questions are missing.
3) The final practice exam is way too easy compared to the real one so you can't depend on it to judge your readiness. I finished the final practice exam in less than 2 hours and I got 90% correct but in the real exam it took me over 3 and a half hour and I got only one domain "Proficient" and the rest "Moderately Proficient".

But other than a sympathetic profile of Billy Joel, Klosterman rarely strays from his favorite topics: heavy metal music, television, sports and sex. Perhaps this career overview is his way of recycling old themes into some kind of new "defining endeavor," as he describes the title inspired by Led Zeppelin IV (as it is unofficially called). This would make perfect sense given his work so far: Fargo Rock City was an original and confident debut (like Led Zeppelin I); his newest book definitely has kick, but overall it's a mixed bag of collected essays—strong and not-so-strong performances—its parts are greater than the whole. Creative insights

Klosterman's work reflects creativity and interesting insights into American culture. His major frame of reference is modern-pop music. Interesting read with fascinating "what if" scenarios. Good basis for discussion with friends. Worth the quick read.

Mostly funny, entirely entertaining

This is the first book I've read by CK and I found it, for the most part, to be pretty funny. When I picked it up and thumbed through it I happened (apparently) among the more funny stories. After reading it, I will say that I enjoyed the book although the intellectualism gets a little heavy towards the middle. I remember thinking, "wasn't this book cracking me up the other day? Because right now, not so much." It was still interesting but more in a (begin finger quotes) lecture-y/think-y (end finger quotes) sort of way.

I would recommend this book to most people. I think there are a few stories in here that most people will find pretty amusing. It's a nice book to read while you're waiting for stuff because each essay/article is reasonably short.

I will admit, though, that I did not read the fiction piece at the end. I chose this book because I didn't want to read fiction! It wasn't bad but just not what I was up for plus I had read the previous 100 pages while I was stuck in the desert so I think maybe I overdid it.

Option Pricing for the 21st Century

The Volatility Surface is an-ultra modern account of derivatives pricing and hedging. Indeed of the fifty-two bibliographical references a mere twenty were written before 1999. The book makes the case for option pricing models which incorporate randomness into stock price volatility (stochastic volatility) and jumps into stock price movements. By themselves these are not new models, but a coherent understanding of their relationship to the dynamics of the volatility surface and to derivatives valuation is new, and Gatheral does an admirable job of presenting a great deal of the most modern work in this area - including some of his own - in one place.

The topic is necessarily mathematical in nature and Gatheral spares the reader nothing of the full-on mathematical treatment; but he nevertheless manages to distill the essence of the most important mathematics into easily accessible, intuitive explanations that supplement the readers understanding. Thus this book should have broad appeal to practitioners of all levels, especially traders and those familiar with the basics of derivatives valuation. Gatheral succeeds in this vein so well, I believe, because he is a first-rate quant and a a long-time senior quant at Merril Lynch.

The book gives an excellent treatment of the relationship between stock price dynamics which actually explain option prices observed in the market and the necessity of studying the volatility surface to have a complete understanding of derivatives valuation. He does a great job of justifying the key models he reviews and then studies the implications for derivatives valuation.

As an expert practitioner, his choices reflect what is really out there in the market, so readers should pay attention. As a first rate quant, his mathematics and his grasp of the literature on option pricing will expose readers to the best of the best.

Of particular note is his last chapter on volatility instruments, in particular variance swaps, volatility swaps and options on volatility. This is an important market that was just getting started in the late 1990s but has burgeoned into one of the most active and important markets in equity derivatives. This chapter is a must for anyone interested in understanding the subtelties involved in understanding variance swap and volatility swap valuation, and is alone worth the cover price.

Nice Review of Stochastic Vol Literature

The academic literature on stochastic volatility models is vast and often difficult to understand or at least to gain a coherent view of the field from. This book provides a succinct introduction. It is well written without over simplifying issues.

Things are looked at from the view of a practitioner rather than an academic. Proofs are generally not formal and are designed to stress financial insight over rigour. But it is important to state that "practitioner" means quant rather than trader, and that this is not a piece of light reading!

I was pleased to see sections on asymptotic solutions, volatility derivatives and an introduction to credit but was a little disappointed by the brevity of the bibliography.

This book contains a lot of errors. Even after reviewing errata, I have still found errors in taking differentials which made me loose a lot of time trying to figure out the correct formulation. I literally had to drive the formula on myself. I checked with the original papers sometimes. I wish writers pay more attention to what they write when they publish a book.
