Grade 4-8-- Jaspersohn describes the life of Captain Ralph Larson as he and his crew fly a Pan Am Boeing 747 from New York to New Delhi by way of Frankfurt. The narrative follows Larson from his home in Vermont through the duties and activities in which the flight crew participates from the time they arrive at the airport until they return home. Predeparture tasks are delineated as well as the in-flight practices and procedures. The account reads quickly and smoothly with abbreviations and unfamiliar terms explained in context. The text is liberally illustrated with black-and-white photos--at least one on every page. Some are obviously posed, and a few are too dark to be very informative.
