Used it as Reference to write my own gothic novel

I loved this book. I wanted to know what made a novel 'gothic' and I found it in the library and read it, cover to cover, while I made notes in a journal and eventually ended up learning all the literary devices which make a novel termed 'gothic' as well as getting great ideas from the masters of gothic fiction for my own novel. You can't break the rules till you know them, and this book is very indepth with comparing the famous gothic novels, breaking them down, explaining the history of why gothic novels came to be, and what they sprang out of. Not a light read by any means. Very through and thoughtful. Often the author came back around several times to the same conclusion using different novels; point of view and motivation are explored at length. I truly feel I understand what makes a novel 'gothic', now, after reading the book. I took this book seriously as I made notes as the author, who is terribly knowledgeable - a glance at her bibilography at the back is, wow - made me think very deeply on the subject. Keeping a note book handy at all times while reading it, and writing down my own thoughts and ideas about gothic novels helped me shape my own idea for one - which was great, since that is why I took the time to read this very deep and encompassing book on the subject. Thank you, Elizabeth, for writing it, and approaching it so adeptly, competently. It has alterted the course of my literary career, and for that - and the pleasure of the experience of reading it - and just learning from it from a literary standpoint, I thank you sincerely.
