A really wonderful book. A 'Must Read' for all Rhodesians.

I was completely captivated by this book from the beginning of the first chapter, when he said that first arriving in Rhodesia was like finally realising that you had found your home. It so perfectly described my own experience. I still get a warm glow when I dip back into this book. It is written in a wonderfully genuine style, and brings back so many memories: good and sad. An absolute MUST for everyone who holds Rhodesia dear. I shall make a point of reccommendi It to all my friends. Definitely the full 5 STARs !!

The Odds Were Just Too Great

This is a solid factual account from the personal experiences of an old style policeman and terrorist fighter.
He seemed to go everywhere and into danger at the drop of a hat even on reaching the ranks of Superintendent and Chief Superintendent.
Those 15 years of war were an experience in fortitude, valour and hope, but sadly it all ended rather quickly and very tragically. 35 years later there is indeed no uhuru for anyone, just a failed state waiting for a dictator and his anointed ones to pass. But that might take another couple of generations.
It is actually incredible how it took just 15 years by initially raw tribespeople (albeit fully supported by the Soviet Union and China) to blunt (note, not beat) the military might of the Rhodesian Joint Forces and yet 35 years later the population of going on 10 million people is subjugated and enslaved by greed, poverty and hopelessness.
One can but pray for the good people of Zimbabwe that true uhuru is much closer than it otherwise currently appears.
To Chief Superintendent Tippetts and his ilk, I salute you for those 15 years, but the odds were just too great.

The Fall of Rhodesia.

This well-written and interesting book catalogues the descent of a once prosperous country into a state of economic collapse and barbarism, despite the efforts of a valiant few trying to stem the tide!
Fearful Odds outlines the ultimate success of Mugabe's terrorists in terrorising and murdering the people of Rhodesia (black and white) while the British government sacrifices them on the alter of expediency and appeasement.
Churchill must be spinning in his grave!
