First class alternate World War II

There are better writers than John Schettler, but no one writing today can hold a candle to his volume of solid well written; well researched; and well constructed alternate version of World War II. The technical aspect of the time distortion events necessary to set up his story line is a bit hokey, but it, the technical aspect, is really unimportant to the plot. Quite frankly his philosophical discussions of the paradoxes of time travel are quite cogent but it is his detailed examination of the place of World War II's theaters of operation, and his construction of the personalities of its fighting generals, admirals, and ordinary seamen and grunts that makes this series a stand-out.
The age of Harry Turtledove's interesting but wooden characterizations has thankfully passed, and with writers like Schettler whose skills include an understanding of the psychology of modern warriors reacting to superior technology with superior skills at adapting to the situation are a delight.
Don't start with this one though. Start with Book One of the Kirov Series. You will have hours upon hours of "can't put it down reading pleasure."

Kirov alternate reality series got carried away.

I loved the Kirov series in the beginning. Fascinating to speculate how a 21st century warship would duel with warships in times past. But over time the author has developed such a massive alternate reality that I simply could not follow it anymore so I think I dropped out after 6-7 books. I ordered this one to give the series another chance but it's just too strange.

This will complicate things!

I enjoyed this installment in the series. Although I missed hearing from Federov and Karpov in this book, many important building blocks of the story were laid for the coming books. Some great battle scenes, and one huge plot twist that will have all kinds of repercussions... but I don't want to give any spoilers.
