This is the book for you if you are in Education

In education, we are always striving to be leaders in an out of the classroom. Sometimes we have an idea how to do this, and sometimes we not sure where to start. Start Right Now is what all educators need to read. It doesn't matter if you are a classroom teacher, coach, administrator or even in technology. Todd, Jeff and Jimmy bring you real ideas, real experience and great tactics and skills to your school. This is another winner from Burgess Publishing. It doesn't matter if you Teach like a Pirate, working through the Dunk Tank or are new or old in education. This is a must have book from classroom management to empathy. Pick it up.

Work in Education? This is a Must Read!

I figured that the incredible impact these authors had on me when I read "What Connected Educators do Differently" could not be matched. It turns out I was wrong. I thought this book would be a two-three night read, however, the text truly made me evaluate myself as an Educator via the four domains covered. Instead of a two-night read, it became almost a two-week read with plenty of highlights, and post-it notes because of the relevance of the text.
What separates this book from other educational books I have read is the authenticity included in the book. The authors have seen a tremendous number of administrators, teachers, and students in various geographic/SES environments. It's not a fairy tale about what educations should be, or a "woe is me" attitude for those in schools. The skills effective leaders have are conveyed clearly through four "Standards of Excellence". How do they support their opinions of what great leaders are in schools? By giving in-depth examples of people doing just that in their district! The focus at the end of each of the standards are the characteristics possessed by the great leaders in education, whether it be a principal, teacher, coach, etc.
As a teacher, this book was a beneficial read for me. Unfortunately not because it made me realize I'm a great leader, but rather just how far away I am from being close to those truly special individuals in Education. By the end of the book, I had gained additional resources, motivation with a sense of direction, and something that will be on my office desk as I will re-read my highlighted sections to remind myself of the numerous ways I can improve as a teacher and leader. The three gentlemen who wrote this book created something I would recommend to all of my colleagues I work with. These authors GET IT. It's clear they are in the schools and talking to educators.

A must read for all educators!

Start Right Now is another home run book authored by the powerhouse trio of educators Todd Whitaker, Jeff Zoul and Jimmy Casas. True to their style this book proves to be an easy yet thought provoking read. Todd, Jeff and Jimmy take the meaning of leadership to a whole new level as they empower all educators to share in the responsibility of leading our schools. They remind us that our belief in excellence alone is not enough to make our schools great, we must take our beliefs and turn them into behaviors. This book provides useful strategies not only for developing yourself as a leader but also for identifying and developing leadership in others. Todd, Jeff and Jimmy identify four key “Standards 4 Excellence” providing the reader with a rationale - Why it matters, and behavior description - What it looks like, for each standard. The book is arranged in a practical, easy to follow format with each “Standards 4 Excellence” chapter concluding with Teach 4, Lead 4, Learn 4 - reflections from 4 teachers, 4 leaders and 4 QR codes that link to resources we all can learn from.
No matter what your role in education I highly recommend Start Right Now!
